Abstract art is sometimes seen as puzzling and ambiguous rather than understandable and engaging. It often lacks any representation, or reference to nature or an object, and is assumed to be the result of a lack of skill on the part of the artist.
Debates have surrounded abstract art from its beginnings. However, abstract art encourages us to think about art in different ways: the relationship between color and materials; the expressiveness of color and form; optics and kinetics; geometry, pattern and composition; and the ambiguous space between the recognizable and the unfamiliar.
